Bringing the Acton Vale Community Together Through Jumu’ah, Taraweeh and Iftar
How regular prayer, Ramadan gatherings and shared meals created connection, belonging and a stronger local community.
A welcoming place to come together
MP Foundation has been helping bring people together in Acton Vale, West London, through regular Jumu’ah prayers and community activities designed to create a welcoming space for local residents. The gatherings have become more than a place to pray – they have given people an opportunity to meet neighbours, see familiar faces, build friendships and feel part of the wider community. People of different ages, cultures and backgrounds have been welcomed. Everyone is invited, and the atmosphere has helped people who might otherwise spend much of their time alone to come out, connect with others and feel included.
Creating connection and reducing isolation
Regular community gatherings can make a meaningful difference to people who experience loneliness or social isolation. Having a familiar place to attend each week gives people a reason to leave the house, speak to others and develop a sense of belonging. Through the Acton Vale community Jumu’ah, local residents have had more opportunities to form friendships, support one another and strengthen community connections.

Ramadan: Taraweeh and Iftar together
During Ramadan, that sense of community grew even stronger. MP Foundation organised Taraweeh prayers in Acton Vale, giving local people a place to worship together during the evenings of the blessed month. The prayers brought together people who might not normally meet and helped create a warm, supportive atmosphere throughout Ramadan.
Shared community Iftars were another important part of the programme. Families, young people, older residents and people from different backgrounds sat together to break their fast, share food and enjoy conversation. Everyone was welcome. For some, it was a family occasion; for others, it meant they did not have to break their fast alone.
The Iftars were about much more than food. They created a friendly space where people could talk, laugh, get to know one another and feel connected. These simple shared moments helped build trust and friendship between neighbours and made the community feel closer.
A stronger, more caring community
Through Jumu’ah, Taraweeh and Iftar, MP Foundation has seen how community activities can create positive connections and help people feel that they belong. New relationships have formed, people have become more familiar with their neighbours, and residents have had opportunities to support one another beyond the gatherings themselves.
MP Foundation believes community support is not only about responding to hardship. It is also about creating spaces where people can meet, worship, share a meal and know that they are welcome. By continuing these activities in Acton Vale and West London, the charity hopes to strengthen community wellbeing, reduce isolation and bring people together from across the local area.
Everyone is welcome. Every connection matters. Together, we can build a stronger and more caring community.
